Struggling with math or need to prep for an upcoming test? That is what I am here for!  What motivates me is giving students a new perspective on math and to help them experience the “light bulb” going off! My goal is to always help my students to actually understand the math, opposed to just getting the answer. I feel the way math is currently taught in schools is by a “paint by number” method where students plug and chug and memorize how to get the answer, instead of building a foundation and actually understanding what to do! This then leads to student’s having test anxiety and lacking confidence. That is where I come in, let me help you learn and finally understand how to do math!

My name is Mallory (Parsons) Dyer and I was born and raised in Marana, AZ. I am married to Josh Dyer, also of Marana. After graduating from Marana High School, I attended Central Arizona College on an athletic/academic scholarship to play basketball and was part of the 2005 NJCAA National Championship Team. I earned my Associates of Science and was also named Outstanding First Year Student and Math Student of the Year. That is when I knew I had a passion for teaching mathematics.

I graduated summa cum laude with my Bachelors in Mathematics from Arizona state University, while coaching basketball at CAC. After graduating, I decided to venture out into the business side of math and began working for Watson Wyatt Worldwide as an Actuary. I passed Exam P of the Society of Actuaries, but soon realized I was meant to be in the classroom and teaching math. I wanted to help students learn and spread my knowledge of mathematics. So I went back to school and received my Master’s degree in Mathematics (MAT) from Northern Arizona University.

I have been a Professor of Mathematics at Central Arizona College since 2008 and this year I won the national NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence. While I enjoy teaching in the classroom, my true passion is tutoring and helping students to understand and succeed in math. That is why I started Mathbymal, an online tutoring service where I take an individualized approach to each and every student I help. I offer homework help, urgent homework help (when you need help  FAST), test prep (including ACT and SAT) and one on one tutoring session.

I also witnessed many changes in the math classroom due to our ever growing use of technology and the changes in our economy. In turn, this lead me to the idea of designing GraphLock, an affordable math education app that turns a user’s phone solely into a graphing calculator. It has a unique lockdown feature the blocks all phone capabilities so that it can be used in the classroom and in testing environments-per school policy. With GraphLock, a student will never have to buy or carry around a graphing calculator again!

My passion is in helping students succeed and build confidence in their abilities! Please contact me if you would like to finally understand and succeed in math!

Mallory has been working with my niece for the past 3 weeks in preparation for her ACT.  She has been very flexible in scheduling around school and athletics.  It has been extremely convenient because they are able to Skype so my niece does not have to leave home!  My niece says that Mallory has been so much help because she breaks it down until she understands it.  We could not be happier with all of the help Mallory has provided.  I would highly recommend Mallory to help at any level!
